Dear teachers and dear friends:

 Good morning. Today, my topic is­­­­­-------- protecting the environment is protecting ourselves.

Once man did not have to think about the protection of his environment. There were few people on the earth, and natural resources seemed to be unlimited. Today things are different. The world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources, and polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals.

Though we realize that if too many fish are taken from the sea, there will soon be none left. Yet, with modern fishing methods, more and more fish are caught. Though we know that if too many trees are cut down, forests will disappear. Yet, we continue to use powerful machines to cut down more and more trees. Though we see that if rivers are polluted with waste products, we will die. Yet, waste products are still put into rivers. We also know that if the population continues to rise at the present rate, in a few years, there won’t be enough food.What can we do to solve these problems? If we continue to do this, human life on earth will not survive. So protecting the environment is protecting ourselves.

Well, let’s imagine if we don’t protect the environment, What will happen in a few years? There will be no clean water in the lake but nasty mud; the sky will not be blue but gray; the air will not be fresh but dirty; our friend, animal, will have no home to live. We, human, will have to look for a place to live, but we can’t find anywhere! How do you think of it? Do you want to see this picture in the future?

As my idea, I hate it. I think it is very terrible. So we should do something to protect our environment. For example, if we eat more vegetables and less meat, there will be more food available; If we don’t waste the water and don’t use the plastics bag; but learn to recycle them, our natural resources will last longer; If we plant more and more trees, the sand will become forests again; if people use modern methods of birth control, the world population will not rise so quickly; if we educate people to think about the problems,  we shall have a better and cleaner planet in the future.

Of course, teamwork is the most important, I think. Because protecting the environment is not something that can be done by one or two people. It need all of us to get in, to make the earth a better place. Maybe you are thinking: I am a child, I can’t do any things for it. But I want to say: Kids like you and me are very important, we can do a lot of things.

Any way, I believe if every one can make a contribution to protecting our environment, our home, the earth, will become more and more beautiful!
